Information for young people and their supporters

Equity Works has received funding to run a 12-month pilot project.
The project is called HERE NOW NEXT.
The project is co-designed with and co-led by young people with disability.
The vision of the Here Now Next (HNN) project is to find real, meaningful, and sustainable open employment for young people with disability using peer work mentors, person led career planning and building upon established community relationships and networks.
The project will work with at least 25 young people with disabilities who are between the ages of 14 and 24 who are interested in thinking about and finding work.
The project aims to match a person’s identified interest and skills with local jobs and work experience. The jobs will be developed around each person while also meeting the needs of the business and might include casual, part time or full-time work.

We will talk to you and/or your supporters about your work goals and interests and together we’ll decide if the project is a good fit for you at this stage. Your participation in this project may depend on:

  • Your interest in finding paid work in open employment (minimum award wages)
  • Your availability to work
  • Capacity to travel to work or openness to explore transport options

We get to know each participant, create work goals using our planning tool and focus on work related skill development. This process will include conversations with you, your family and others who know you well.

We will assist you to get ready for work. This includes developing a resume to give to potential employers. You will then go on a matching list for a job. Finding a good match may take some time and we cannot guarantee a job.

As well as supporting individuals into meaningful work, we also assist participants with work experience and job trials where appropriate.

How HERE NOW NEXT will help you find a job

Once HERE NOW NEXT team has supported you to develop your personalised work profile we will connect with our local community of workplaces and look for suitable jobs.

  • Recommend you to employers based on your individual skill and interest
  • Introduce you to the workplace and assist you to learn how to do your job
  • Act as a go between your workplace and your family/support network
  • Help you find the right ongoing support if you need it
  • Be available to you and the business to make the most of your work.

Does it Cost anything to be part of the project?

As HERE NOW NEXT project is funded through the government for 12 months, there is no cost.

Does everyone get a job?

The HERE NOW NEXT team will do our best to support all participants to increase their chances of finding open employment. We cannot promise that everyone will find a job through the project. It is important to keep other employment avenues open to maximise your chances of finding work.
