Joel Brown and Hogs Breath Cafe at Mooloolaba
Joel has been a familiar face at our Respite Home at Brookes Street for many years. We know he has a passion for singing and is a great performer, but he has had some other things on his mind lately, being keen to find a job.
Enter, Hogs Breath at Mooloolaba - a place where Joel has enjoyed dining out and getting to know the staff. Joel's Mum, Robyn has always been a proactive presence in Joel's life and thought it was worth asking the question on 28 year-old Joel's behalf. Could he volunteer at Hogs Breath and gain some valuable work based skills?
It can be challenging for parents to step out and approach prospective employers on their children's behalf, given very few opportunities exist for people with disability to find meaningful employment. However Robyn, who has been performing on the Sunny Coast for a number years and is about to release her first album, has become accustomed to putting her best foot forward, and who better to inspire her than Joel!
Having seen how much Joel was enjoying his new role, Robyn sent a letter of thanks to Hogs Breath which has resulted in Joel being featured on the front page of the Sunshine Coast Daily and an online interview with Joel and Robyn.
Congratulations Joel! We'll be looking for a well cooked steak when we next see you at Brookes Street!
